All apps will not be able to access the list of installed applications, Google made changes

Most Android users do not know that an app installed in the phone can see the list and data of other apps.

However, with the help of a masseuse app, data such as backing information and passwords could be stolen.

Taking this thing seriously, Google has made a big change in the Android system and from May 5, the new policy on the Play Store is being implemented for the apps.

Developers will have to explain the reason

The Artechnica report states that if an app wants to access a list of apps present in the user’s devices, developers will have to explain the reason for doing so.

Google will decide whether the app should be given access to other applications installed in the user’s device.

It is worrisome that apps that request ‘query_all_packages’ in Android 11 can see the list of all the apps in the phone.

Google made changes in the development program policy

Google has made changes in its developer program policy, taking seriously the concerns and questions related to users’ data security.

Google said, “Apps whose core purpose is to launch, search or work with other apps in the phone will only get access to the list of installed apps in the phone.”

At the same time, many types of restrictions have been imposed on other apps and they will be able to access limited data from the user’s phone.

Apps will be removed from Google Play Store

Google has said that developers have to tell in the Play Console Declaration Form that their app is not taking high-risk permissions.

The company has warned that apps that do not do so will be removed from the Play Store.

Google said, “Apps that do not follow policy requirements and do not submit declaration forms can also be removed from the Google Play store. Apps must revise the declaration each time a change in permissions is made.”

Only the necessary permissions will be able to take apps

The search engine company has said that developers who want their apps to be given the option to interact with other apps can use app-discovery APIs instead of requesting a list of entire apps.

The company said, “In the event of misleading and misuse of permissions received by Google, the app can be suspended or the developer account can also be terminated.”
