The latest and greatest news has come from the Indian telecom industry. Two telecom giants Reliance Jio and Airtel have entered into an agreement to purchase some spectrum in the 800Mhz band in Delhi, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh circles. Jio has done the deal for around Rs 1,497 crore. As a result of this agreement, the company will be able to provide better services to its customers in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Mumbai using the additional spectrum that Reliance Jio will get in the 800Mhz band.
According to the press release of Airtel, the agreement between Jio and Airtel has been settled for Rs 1,497 crore. Subsequently, Jio will have 7.5Mhz of additional spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh circles. The company will use its maximum share in Andhra Pradesh, which will be 3.75Mhz. Apart from this, 1.25 MHz in Delhi and 2.50 MHz in Mumbai will be used. Certainly due to the additional spectrum, Jio customers will be able to get better services in the future.
Regarding this agreement, Reliance Jio says that the addition of new spectrum will improve the company’s infrastructure and network capabilities. After this additional spectrum, Reliance Jio will have 2X10 MHz of spectrum available in the 800Mhz band in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi circles and 2X15 MHz of spectrum in the 800Mhz band of Mumbai Circle. The company claims that it will see more strength in customer services in these three circles.
An exact timeframe has not yet been shared as to when users will benefit from the deal. Jio has stated that the trade agreement was in accordance with the spectrum trading guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and is subject to regulatory and statutory approval.
