A Tesla owner in China who bought one of the company’s vehicles claimed that his car had bad brakes. He acknowledged that the story was fabricated in an apology issued on a Chinese social media network.
According to Teslarati, the electric vehicle company has resisted several instances of misinformation campaigns in China over the past two years, with many owners saying the vehicles had braking problems that led to accidents.
On several occasions, Tesla has given these owners the opportunity to prove that the vehicles are at fault, even offering third-party examinations of the cars involved in the accidents.
Tesla did this to an owner who claimed at the Shanghai Auto Show last year that the car he bought from the automaker was not safe.
It refused to comply with Tesla’s third-party audit request, and data from the vehicle showed it had been driven aggressively before the accident.
A Weibo user, who identified himself as a Wenzhou owner in his profile on the platform, issued an apology for fabricating a story that his Tesla braking system was not effective.
