The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a strict instruction to all the telecom service providers on Thursday. In which it has been said that telecom companies should ensure that their channels, distributors and retailers do not offer special tariffs to customers, due to which customers are getting mobile number portability (MNP) on other networks.
TRAI reminded telecom operators that offering special tariff for mobile number portability is a “violation” of the Telecom Tariff Offer and other rules issued by TRAI in this context from time to time. Huh. The purpose of these rules is to eliminate discrimination in tariffs.

Also, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has fixed the responsibility for the operators to ensure compliance of regulatory provisions and guidelines in such cases.
TRAI in its order directed all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to ensure with immediate effect that only tariffs known to the regulator are offered through their channel partners, distributors, retailers or third party apps.
Know TRAI’s new order
The regulator said that it would be the responsibility of the telecom service providers to ensure compliance with the guidelines and provisions of TRAI, where the name or brand of the operators is used for marketing or sale of the products. TRAI had received complaints by telecom service providers against each other, alleging that rival firms were offering mobile number portability (MNP) based tariffs. Only after this came this order from TRAI.
